1953 Packard Clipper Deluxe

Submitted by Nell O.

In December 1994, we acquired a 1953 Packard Clipper Deluxe 4-door Sedan with 50,295 actual miles. The previous owner had moved to Madison, AL from Manatee County, FL and had owned the car five years. He had acquired it from an auto restorer in Bradenton, FL who in turn found it in a field off Highway 64 between Avon Park and Bradenton.

The car was driven home but the brakes faded as we reached our destination so brake work was in order as was some upholstery work, some re-chroming of the brightwork, and a new coat of paint in the original Packard Ivory (top)/ Polaris Blue (bottom). We completed it with a new set of wide whitewall tires.

The '53 Packard cost $2,695 when new and is one of 26,027 4-doors produced. It has Packard's Ultramatic automatic transmission, power steering, and power brakes and is powered by a 160 hp 327 cu. in. flathead eight Packard Thunderbolt engine.

With a new coat of paint, we believe this classic is a sharp car! As does the previous owner…he has visited us several times to see the work we put into the car.
